33 years of Drameco
It is actually by coincidence that founder Jan Wesseling started a company in wire products and transport baskets in Coevorden in1973. It could have been elsewhere had he not met the attentive mayor of the fortified city and made the remark that he was looking for space to start a company and had the mayor not immediately reacted with an offer. The doors opened on the 1st of November 1973 and the first eight co-workers could begin.
Jan Wesseling, who was familiar with the tricks of the trade in the world of wire and wire products before he became an independent entrepeneur, produced primarily transport baskets and all types of wire products in Coevorden. From large to small, from components for shop interiors and newspaper racks to racks for test-tubes. From the beginning not only on the domestic market, but also abroad: Germany, on the doorstep, and further afield.
Doubling in size in the nineteen-eighties
Good quality products, adequate delivery and creative solutions for the presentation problems of clients ensured growth. Slowly but surely, Drameco captured a solid place in the (international) market. So solid, that in 1979 a building contractor was engaged to expand the company to a floor area of 4000 m2. It was not only the floor area that grew, the number of co-workers also increased. In 1984, another thousand square metres had to be added to accommodate the growing inventory of mechanical equipment.
A blip in the upward trend
From 1973, up to and including1988, Drameco saw a continuous upward trend. Logically, a period of change was due. In 1989 there was talk of a dip, just as with many other businesses. The economy stood still, even went backwards. Drameco survived this short decline and started a new period of growth. The wire products from Coevorden captured a steadily growing share of the Dutch market, while the company also saw sales abroad grow slowly but surely.
The nineties: A far-reaching decision
More market share, more products, more machines and personnel again automatically meant the question of more space. A rigorous decision was made in 1997: the whole company would have to radically change. An additional large new workshop of 3000 m2 was built, the offices were relocated, the routing completely reorganised and a number of new machines acquired. The rejuvenated Drameco was, with an area of 6000 m2 and a modern machinery inventory, ready for the future.
A new century, new leadership
Founder-owner Jan Wesseling had by this time been `in wire` for over thirty years. Time, he found, to consider the direction and further development of Drameco in de 21st century. On 2. January the contracts were signed concerning the sale to r Ard Wesseling, who was in the firma actively since 1989. Drameco was by this time one of the larger companies in its sector in the Netherlands. The year after the transfer some large investments are made to increase the production-capacity with 100%. Drameco has now 3 full-automatic weldingsportals, 1 CNC Coördinate-weldingmachine, 2 semi-automatic weldingportals 4 weldingrobotten, 3 press brakes, 4 Wire Straightening
and Cutting-Off Machines , 3D-wirebendingrobot, 2D wirebendingrobot en ± 20 weldingmachines
The growth continues
The development trend of 21st century Drameco is still upwards. A considerable expansion of production space of more than 4000 square metres startet in 2004, with which the company’s area will grow to 10,000 square metres, including a new logistics centre. The project will be completed end 2006.

The secret: Being flexible

Drameco makes not only medium-sized and large series of products for the various categories of clients, but also single pieces.
